Hofen is a district of Bönnigheim in the Baden-Württemberg district of Ludwigsburg in Germany .

history

Hofen was first mentioned in the Lorsch Codex in 836 . In the high Middle Ages, the place was owned by a community of Ganerbe , which included the lords of Urbach, von Sachsenheim , von Neipperg , von Liebenstein and Rau von Winnenden. The patronage rights of the church, first mentioned in 1379, but certainly older, belonged to the Lords of Urbach in the late Middle Ages and then passed to Württemberg via the Lauffen monastery and the Denkendorf monastery in the course of the Reformation . By buying it from the Ganerbe, Württemberg finally acquired the rest of the town between 1575 and 1584. Hofen was subordinated to the Württemberg Office of Brackenheim. In the Thirty Years' War, the attacks after the battle of Nördlingen that Württemberg lost, led to the place being completely uninhabited at times (1641 to 1643). In the course of the new administrative structure after the establishment of the Kingdom of Württemberg , Hofen came to the Oberamt Besigheim in 1808 . In 1938, during the regional reform of Württemberg during the Nazi era , Hofen came to the Ludwigsburg district .

The place was dominated by agriculture until the recent past. The old location essentially only comprised the area enclosed by Schulbrunnenstrasse. After the designation of new building areas, Hofen became a place of residence for commuters to the surrounding cities and communities. Hofen was incorporated into Bönnigheim on October 1, 1972.

Attractions

Church and rectory

In the old town center of Hofen you will find the old town hall, renovated in 1784, the wine press at the portal dated 1627 and various historical agricultural properties. In the northeast of the town center are the Ottilia Church and the historic rectory from 1613. The oldest parts of the church date from the 13th century , while frescos from the early 14th century have been preserved inside . The coats of arms on the portal of the rectory indicate the local rule of Württemberg and the ownership of the Denkendorf monastery. The stonemason's mark on the parsonage portal could also be that of a master at the Freiburg Minster Building. Various historical tombs have been erected near the church.
