history

middle Ages

Hochhausen was first mentioned around 780 in the Codex Eberhardi as Hochusen . It is an expansion site from the Merovingian era and former property of the Fulda monastery. The first written document about Hochhausen comes from the year 1149, when the place came to the Hochstift Würzburg as royal property.

The local nobility is documented from 1244 to 1393. The lower nobility of the place was often Wertheimer retinue. A castle is not known. Important owners of goods and rights in the late Middle Ages were, besides Kurmainz, the Counts of Wertheim , the barons of Rosenberg as fiefdoms and the Bishopric of Würzburg and the barons of Echter . In 1276 the place came to Wertheim as the property of the Würzburg Cathedral Monastery, later goods of the Grünau Charterhouse donated by the Counts of Wertheim. The tithe sovereignty and probably also territorial sovereignty is associated with the Mainz Tauberbischofsheim.

Modern times

The Niedergericht was owned by von Rosenberg until 1632 and fell to Kurmainz when the Echter died out in 1665. Hochhausen was once a lightly fortified village. In 1803 the place fell to Leiningen before it became Baden in 1806. Tauberbischofsheim was always the responsible official seat.

With the opening of the first section of the Lauda – Wertheim line to Hochhausen in 1867, the town received a railway connection. The route, built from 1865 onwards, separated the orchards and vineyards from the actual town center and was completed as far as Wertheim in 1868 .

From 1813 the place belonged to the district office Tauberbischofsheim , which in turn became part of the district of Tauberbischofsheim and in 1973 in the Main-Tauber district. On July 1, 1971, Hochhausen was incorporated into Tauberbischofsheim together with Impfingen as part of the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg .
