The tanners obtained the ground oak bark, called tan, from them and strewed it between the soaked animal hides, which were tanned into leather using the tannic acid contained in the tan. After the tanning process, which had to be repeated several times and lasted for many months, the hides had to be washed off with plenty of water. This tan broth turned red-brown, which is how the name red tanner came about. Nameless streets

  • "Pfarrgäßchen" - a street that is actually nameless or not known by name. Probably not a baptized street with a name. Since it was located at the former rectory and the old quarter name is also Pfarrgäßchen, this former alley is referred to as Pfarrgäßchen in this list.
  • "Schwanengasse" - Actually nameless or not known by name street. Probably not a baptized street with a name. The longest and widest house on the market square used to be a half-rounded gate, which provided passage and drive through for the houses and courtyards behind the market square houses. Since the longest and widest house on the market square housed the Schwanen, i.e. the Gasthaus Schwan (later housewares Albitz, then Ising, a mixed hardware store of old, small-town business caliber), this former alley is referred to in this list as Schwanengasse. The alley was probably laid out according to plan and only disappeared from the cityscape with the later development.
  • "Unterste Gasse" - Actually nameless street, not a historical alley. The alley was created by demolishing a house and is used as a passage or passage between Ringstrasse and Frauenstrasse. The alley is referred to as Unterste Gasse in this listing because it is in front of the Untere Gasse.
