St. Mark's Church

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Markus in Distelhausen , a district of Tauberbischofsheim in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg , was built from 1731 to 1738 under the supervision of Balthasar Neumann .

history

The first Thistle Houses village church, which was mainly made of wood, fell victim to a fire caused by a lightning strike in 1725. A medieval tower at the chancel is reminiscent of the previous building. The current church was financed by the Würzburg Juliusspital , the Court Chamber of Würzburg and the Teutonic Order in Bad Mergentheim . The main portal of the new building shows the year construction began (1731). In 1738 the hall was built. In 1750 the rococo furnishings were completed.

The Markuskirche belongs to the pastoral care unit Tauberbischofsheim , which is assigned to the deanery Tauberbischofsheim of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .
