The Roman Catholic chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows (also called Sorrows of Mary ) in Hof Steinbach , a small settlement that belongs to the Dittigheim district of the town of Tauberbischofsheim in the Main-Tauber district , is consecrated to the Mater Dolorosa - Latin for "mother in pain" Maria.

history

Steinbach had a chapel before; in 1778 this is referred to as new. From 1871 one dealt again with a new building. The Dittigheim pastor dean Xaver Kleinhans and the clergyman Dr. Stephan Braun made 3000 guilders available as share capital. In 1872 the chapel was built in its current form. The new building was opened on July 8, 1876 by Dr. Braun inaugurated. On October 28, 1923, the bells were consecrated by Pastor Wilhelm Both. The chapel was extensively renovated in the 1990s.

It is recorded from 1899 that there was an incident in Dittwar during the service because the Steinbachers had been attending Sunday services in Dittwar's Laurentius Church for a long time , although they belong to the parish of Dittigheim.

The chapel is assigned to the parish of St. Vitus in Dittigheim . This in turn belongs to the pastoral care unit Tauberbischofsheim, which is assigned to the deanery Tauberbischofsheim of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

architecture

The neo-Romanesque chapel is a hall building with a retracted apse. All openings are arched. The sloping gables are stair-shaped and, like the eaves, are designed with arched friezes. A rider's turret rises above the portal with a clock tower under the gable roof. The dividing elements, executed in smooth red sandstone, contrast with the rough, light stones of the wall surfaces.
