Kalvarienbergkapelle (Dittwar)
The Kalvarienbergkapelle in Dittwar , a district of Tauberbischofsheim in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg , was planned from 1730 and built as the twelfth of a total of fourteen stone chapels as stations of the cross by 1747.
location
The Kalvarienbergkapelle is located south of Dittwar. It is the 12th station of a total of fourteen stone chapels on the Dittwarer Kreuzweg, which leads up from the village exit to Kreuzhölzle.
history
As early as 1730, the planning of the Dittwarer stations of the cross to the "Kalvarienberg" on Kreuzhölzle began. By 1747 the Way of the Cross received 14 small stone chapels as stations of the Cross and the printing permission of an episcopal commission for the first pilgrimage booklet was granted. The Way of the Cross in 1747 with the Calvary Chapel was donated by Christoph Bernhard Müller, the administrator of the Tauberbischofsheim Hospital at the time. The 12th chapel was called " Kalvarienberg " because it was larger than the rest and in the "Kalvarienbergkapelle" there was an altar in memory of the crucifixion. Originally the Dittwarer Kalvarienbergkapelle was a dwelling of the hermits. But this was converted into a chapel by a Baron Bettendorff from Gissigheim .
When planning the Way of the Cross, 1,361 steps were counted from the first station to the Calvary; According to legend, this should be the distance from the historical Way of the Cross in Jerusalem. In the first pilgrimage booklet, a number of other miracles were also listed that are said to have occurred in 1670.
In 1977 the Kalvarienbergkapelle was renovated.
Surname
The chapel was named Kalvarienbergkapelle because it closes the Dittwarer Stationsweg , a Passionsweg.
Monument protection
The Kalvarienbergkapelle is a cultural monument of the town of Tauberbischofsheim. Together with the adjoining cross chapel , a wayside shrine and the stations of the cross, it is a listed building as a whole .
