The cemetery chapel in Impfingen

The Roman Catholic cemetery chapel in Impfingen , a district of Tauberbischofsheim in the Main-Tauber district , was built in the middle of the 19th century. It is consecrated to St. Charles Borromeo , a church reformer during the Council of Trent .

History and equipment

The chapel was built in 1851. The tabernacle altar in the center of the chapel was acquired in 1981 from the parish of Ravenstein-Ballenberg. Its reliefs show the sacrifice of Melchizedek on the left , the sacrifice of Abraham on the right . A crucifixion group can be seen on the left side wall , opposite a copy of a Madonna and Child. The Gothic original is in Brenbrunn.

At the entrance there are memorial plaques for the fallen and missing of the war of 1870/71 and the two world wars. Above the main entrance is a statue of the Apostle James, patron saint of pilgrims and patron saint of Impfingen. There are also butterfly reliefs on the entrance door and a Christopherus relief on the outer wall. The fourteen stations of the Impfinger Kreuzweg begins a little below the chapel . The Impfinger Kreuzweg is the attraction number 8 of 18 on the Impfinger wayside shrine (Kreuzweg with devotional cross).

The cemetery chapel belongs to the pastoral care unit Tauberbischofsheim, which is assigned to the deanery Tauberbischofsheim of the Archdiocese of Freiburg . The associated cemetery belongs to the city of Tauberbischofsheim. The cemetery with the cemetery chapel and crucifixion group is a listed building as a whole.
