Sebastianus Chapel (Tauberbischofsheim)
The Roman Catholic Sebastianus Chapel in Tauberbischofsheim in the Main-Tauber district was built in the 15th century. It is a double chapel that is divided into a basement and an upper floor with independent chapels.
history
The Sebastianus Chapel was built in 1474 as a double chapel with two chapels arranged one above the other and used to serve as a cemetery chapel. The Sebastianus Chapel is now part of the Tauberbischofsheim pastoral care unit, which is assigned to the Tauberbischofsheim deanery of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

Chapel in the basement
The lower chapel used to serve as a cemetery chapel. At the entrance to the basement, the ossuary , there is a sculpture of the Last Judgment . There are also inscriptions on both sides of the entrance that tell of the construction of the chapel. Today the chapel serves as a memorial of the city of Tauberbischofsheim for the dead of the First and Second World War and the post-war period .
Chapel upstairs
The chapel on the upper floor was used by the former Sebastianus Brotherhood as a meeting and prayer room. This gave the chapel its name of the same name in the vernacular. Glass pictures with the life of the city saint Lioba dominate the late Gothic, renovated church interior. The designs for this come from the painter Feuerstein.
