history

Christianity found its way into Hochhausen as early as the time of St. Boniface when he founded the diocese of Würzburg and inaugurated a church in the neighboring Tauberbischofsheim in 722. A short time later (around 725 to 735) he built a monastery there for his relative Lioba. The high-rise parish probably belonged to the Diocese of Würzburg around 800 and from around the year 900 to the Archdiocese of Mainz, because this affiliation is documented for the neighboring community of Tauberbischofsheim and the same may also apply to Hochhausen. Mainz is mentioned in a document in 1223 and received fiefdoms in Hochhausen. The construction of the high-rise Pankratiuskirche began in 1329 in the Gothic style (including the tower) and was completed in 1795 in the Baroque style. From 1960 the church was rebuilt. The nave was last rebuilt in 1963/64. The church furnishings include glass windows by Franz Dewald.

The Pankratiuskirche belongs to the pastoral care unit Tauberbischofsheim, which is assigned to the deanery Tauberbischofsheim of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

With its location on the Taubertal Cycle Path , the Pankratius Church is designated as a cycle path church.
