The St. Wolfgang Chapel (also Wolfgang Chapel ) is a pilgrimage chapel built in the 15th century in Distelhausen , a district of Tauberbischofsheim in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg . She belongs to the pastoral care unit Tauberbischofsheim in the deanery Tauberbischofsheim of the Archdiocese of Freiburg . The Distelhäuser Pfingstritt (also: St. Wolfgang Ritt ) to the St. Wolfgang Chapel has been taking place since 1472 .

history

Foundation of the Wolfgang Chapel

The Distelhäuser Wolfgang Chapel was founded in the 15th century to support Wolfgang pilgrims on their way to St. Wolfgang on Lake Wolfgang (formerly Abersee ). Today the Distelhausen cemetery is located by the chapel.

Way of the Cross

A fourteen-station Way of the Cross begins at the southern wall of the cemetery in the direction of Lauda and leads to the Wolfgang Chapel .

Thistle Houses Whitsun

Since 1472, the St. Wolfgang ride to the chapel has been held annually on Whit Monday . Believers from near and far meet at this church festival with a long tradition at the Wolfgang Chapel to invoke St. Wolfgang in a festive service for intercession against all diseases of humans and animals. Afterwards riders, carriage drivers and horses will be blessed at the Distelhäuser Whitsun Step.

Monument protection

The chapel is located in the Wolfgangstraße 27 (Flst.Nr. 0-5935, 0-5956 0-5959) and is available as part of the entirety of the cemetery with chapel (St. Wolfgang chapel and Abendanz-sarcophagus each § 28), surrounding wall, gate , Stations of the Cross and historical tombs under monument protection .

The St. Wolfgang Chapel, with its location on the Taubertal Cycle Path, is designated as a cycle path church.
