history

middle Ages

Historical finds suggest that the place was settled around 800 AD. It is an expansion site from the Merovingian era . In 1327 the place was first mentioned in a document as Destelhausen . In 1333 it was mentioned as Tesselhusen (also "Tesselenhussen"). The name could have meant on the personal name of the house of Tassilo ; the origin of the name is also traced back to the thistle plants shown later in the coat of arms. As further documents show, the place was known as Destelhusen (also Destelhussen or Destelhausen ) in 1420 . The place name eventually developed into "Distelhausen".

The place once belonged to the rule of Lauda and came with this to the Counts of Rieneck, in the late 14th century to Pfalz, in 1410 to Pfalz-Mosbach and in 1450 again to the Counts of Rieneck. Around half of the population died of the plague in the middle of the 15th century.

Modern times

After Distelhausen had a number of changing rulers, the place finally came in 1506 to the Hochstift Würzburg and the Lauda office there . Distelhausen belonged to the Lauda office until 1813. Distelhausen belonged to the tithe Tauberbischofsheim and from 1585 to the tithe Lauda. The place was part of the Diocese of Würzburg until its secularization in 1803, as well as the Franconian Empire . In 1803 the place first came to the Principality of Leiningen and was ceded to Salm-Reifferscheid. However, this was reversed in 1805 in the exchange of Poppenhausen. After the principality was dissolved in 1806 by the Rhine Confederation Act , Distelhausen was added to the Grand Duchy of Baden . From 1813 to 1840 the community belonged to the Gerlachsheim district office , then to the Tauberbischofsheim district office , later the Tauberbischofsheim district , now the Main-Tauber district . In 1814 751 people lived in Distelhausen.

In 1886 the Distelhausen station was built on the Lauda – Wertheim line. At the end of the Second World War , the US Army set up a depot for supplies, ammunition and vehicles between the village and the train station. In the 1970s, during the construction of the federal highway 81 with the nearby junction Tauberbischofsheim and the nearby Taubertal bridge north of the Distelhausen train station, the additional ceiling construction station Distelhausen was temporarily built.

From 1813 the place belonged to the district office Tauberbischofsheim , which in turn became part of the district of Tauberbischofsheim and in 1973 in the Main-Tauber district. On January 1, 1975, Distelhausen became part of Tauberbischofsheim together with Dittigheim and Dittwar as part of the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg .

coat of arms

The coat of arms appeared on a seal stamp for the first time in the 16th century. It bears the inscription "DISTELHAVSEN 15 (8) 6" and indicates the place name through the thistle tree "talking". The seal later only bore a thistle with the letter “D” until, in the 19th century, color stamps with the inscription “GEMEINDE DISTELHAUSEN” were used, which show two entwined branches without flowers in the crowned shield. In 1900 the General State Archives in Karlsruhe resorted to the old model of the "talking" coat of arms and determined its colors. The local council gave its approval in July 1901. However, the color stamp from 1894 with the false coat of arms was still used until after the First World War .

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Markus was built from 1731 to 1738 under the supervision of Balthasar Neumann . The first village church, which was mainly made of wood, fell victim to a fire caused by a lightning strike in 1725. A medieval tower at the chancel is reminiscent of the previous building.

Farm museum

A farm museum houses around 5,000 exhibits from rural life.

Weather cross

A weather cross was erected in 1714 as an “eternal memory” of damage caused by a thunderstorm , which is now shown on many hiking maps.
