The building, erected in 1840 as the summer residence of the von Zobel family, is still called the new castle by the Distel houses today. It is a historical half-timbered building. Noble ladies lived in the property until the 1920s. During the First World War , the castle temporarily served as a prisoner-of-war camp for Russian prisoners of war. The property later fell into private ownership and served as a gardening shop before it was sold to the municipality of Distelhausen and, in the mid-1950s, to the district of Tauberbischofsheim . An agricultural school was located here from 1958 to 1970. The district media center (formerly Kreisbildstelle) of the Main-Tauber district has been located in the building since 2003 .

The St. Hannah retirement home is being built on the site of the former park of the Zobelschloss. The foundation stone was laid on May 30, 2016. Completion should take place in autumn 2017.
