The little castle in the courtyard garden

The little castle in the Hofgarten , also called Hofgartenenschlösschen , in the Hofgarten district of Wertheim, is a small rococo- style castle with a park that was built in 1777 . The small castle is on the through road from Eichel via Hofgarten to Wertheim on the left.

history

The little castle in the Hofgarten was built in 1777 by Count Friedrich Ludwig as a summer residence . When it was very dilapidated and threatened with demolition, it was saved on the initiative of the city of Wertheim and committed citizens. In 2000, the city of Wertheim acquired the castle from the Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg dynasty . Despite two arson attacks during the repair phase, it was opened as an art museum on April 8, 2006 after extensive restoration. Since then, it has been considered a gem of the city, the surrounding small park is now used for local recreation. Three private art collections (paintings and watercolors from the Berlin Secession , classical Parisian porcelain, paintings from Heidelberg and Karlsruhe Romantics) are housed here, as well as special exhibitions and cultural events.

The castle with park was declared Monument of the Month August / September 2006 by the Monument Foundation Baden-Württemberg .
