The Reinsbronn Castle , also called Geyer-Schloss Reinsbronn , is a former moated castle from the 13th century , which was converted into a castle from 1587. The castle is located in Reinsbronn near Creglingen in Baden-Württemberg .

history

A previous building of the Reinsbronn Castle was first mentioned in 1267 in a document of the Teutonic Order . In 1587 Philip Geyer bought the facility from Giebelstadt in Lower Franconia . For this he paid Philipp Albrecht von Schaumberg 23,000 guilders. Then Philip Geyer began with the conversion to a moated castle by the builder Michel Nicklas, who finished the work in 1588. After his death (the family had died out) it fell to the Margraves of Ansbach. At the beginning of the 19th century the castle was used as the poor house of the village. In 1923, large parts of the palace collapsed. In 1967, Heinz and Mary Mack acquired the castle and began to renovate and partially restore it. In 2013 there was another change of ownership.

Previous construction

The previous building originally consisted of a stone house with a palisade or wall. In the western part there are building elements that suggest a Gothic core. Various owners rebuilt the property over and over again and made extensions until it became a castle with a moat .

Conversion to a castle

The palace complex, built in the Renaissance style in 1587/88, was once four-winged and the arcades in the inner courtyard and the stair tower are still present today , mainly from renovations from that time. In the course of time, a lack of financial means contributed to the steady decline of the castle, until finally in 1923 the north-east corner of the castle with volute gable and parts of the west wing supported. The north and east wings were so badly damaged that the north wing was completely removed and the east wing partially removed. These were no longer built. Only the remaining parts bear witness to the once magnificent Reinsbronn Castle. The subsequent owners of the castle have been constantly busy renovating the complex and partially restoring it to its former state.

The palace complex is a listed building.
