Archshofen Castle

Archshofen Castle is a former castle on the site of a moated castle in Archshofen , a district of Creglingen in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg .

history

A former moated castle as a predecessor was built by the Lords of Archshofen. The building was first mentioned in 1267 when it became the property of the Teutonic Order . An allegedly even older castle on the Kellerberg in Archshofen has gone missing.

In 1391 the former moated castle was destroyed by the Lords of Rothenburg. In 1460 the Teutonic Order sold the castle again. Subsequently, the burgraves of Nuremberg were named as owners. In 1462 the castle was destroyed again.

The former castle was built around 1570. During the Thirty Years War the castle was destroyed by fire in 1638 and then rebuilt from 1690 to 1704. A renovation took place in the 18th century.

In 1949, the east wing of the former castle was demolished because it was in disrepair.

investment

The castle is a three-storey square stone building with a hipped roof . The castle had a wing to the church that was demolished.

Opposite the castle is the former castle garden with an access bridge, which is now separated from the castle by a street. When the palace and palace garden were still together, the road once passed behind the palace and above the church. The castle was actually a former moated castle, which at that time stood in the middle of the castle garden and was rebuilt as a castle after its destruction at its current location. A former mill at the end of the castle garden was used as a fulling mill. The Protestant church is located next to the castle.

Todays use

Today the former castle is privately owned and used as a residential building.
