Reinhard Büttner

Reinhard Büttner (born January 15, 1960 in Fulda ) is a German pathologist, coroner and university professor. Since 2011 he has been professor of pathology at the University of Cologne .

Career

From 1979 to 1985 Büttner studied human medicine, ethnology and African studies in Mainz as well as human medicine in Munich , Cologne and at the Middlesex Hospital Medical School in London. In 1985 he received his doctorate in medicine at the LMU Munich with his thesis Investigations on the electrophoretic differentiation of the genome of human rotaviruses . In the same year he completed the United States Medical Licensing Examination .

After several years as a research assistant and assistant, u. a. At the Institute for Pathology at RWTH Aachen University , at the Department of Tumor Biology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and at the Institute for Pathology at the University of Regensburg , he qualified as a professor in 1995 in experimental pathology. A year later he was recognized as a specialist in pathology. In 1999 the RWTH Aachen appointed him to the chair for pathology and cytology , in 2001 he switched to the chair for pathology at the University of Bonn , where he held the position of dean of the medical faculty from 2005 to 2008. Since 2011 he has been professor of pathology at the University of Cologne .

Büttner is a co-founder of the German Register for Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors . The main focus of his work is the generation of animal models for human diseases and the investigation of the mechanisms of gene regulation in malignant tumors, in particular for the diagnosis and therapy prediction of sarcomas.
