Eiersheim is a village in Tauberfranken and has belonged to the city of Külsheim since the municipal reform on September 1, 1971 .

geography

The Maisenbach, namesake of the valley through which it flows, which flows into the Tauber in Gamburg an der Dorfmühle, rises in the district of Eiersheim . During a storm in May 1911, the otherwise calm stream carried huge amounts of water with it and wreaked havoc on the mill mentioned.

history

middle Ages

Eiersheim was first mentioned in a document in 1233. In another document from 1248, the name of the place Eiersheim is listed as "Iserhem" (= "Home of the Iser"), 1381 as "Yershen" and "Eyershaim".

In the earliest times the village belonged to the Counts of Wertheim , later to the Lords of Rieneck.

Modern times

Eiersheim was Electoral Mainz from 1582 to 1803 and Liningian until 1806 . In the same year the place became part of the Grand Duchy of Baden . Since the dissolution of the Külsheim office on December 23, 1813, Eiersheim was part of the Tauberbischofsheim office , which in turn became part of the Main-Tauber district .

The Eiersheim district used to be richly planted with vines. In an old chronicle it is noted that the Eiersheim wine was once served on the imperial table in Frankfurt am Main . At the height south of the village you can see three old wayside shrines close together . At the point where the old road to Wolferstetten branches off from Hohen Strasse, there used to be the "escort tree". Up to this point Bischofsheim had to give the escort to secure the traffic on this street; from then on Külsheim was responsible for protection. The entire pedestrian and chassis traffic from Tauberbischofsheim to Miltenberg took this route past the Landturm near Wolferstetten . Today's road to Külsheim through the lower Taubenloch was built about a hundred years ago.

On September 1, 1971, Eiersheim was incorporated into Külsheim.

coat of arms

Blazon : in silver a blue grape with green leaves.

Even in the Kurmainzer time, the official cellar in Külsheim sealed the documents and letters issued by the community, " because the village doesn't need its own island " (GLA Karlsruhe: seal card index and coat of arms files Tauberbischofsheim). The power of attorney form for community homage dated August 14, 1811 shows today's coat of arms, a grape. The inscription reads "EYERSH. GERICHTSSIGILL “(Eiersheim court seal). In the color stamps that were used by the municipality in the second half of the 19th century, the grape appears once in the crowned shield, another time without a shield. In the course of the review of the coats of arms of all communities in the Tauberbischofsheim district, the seal of the community Eiersheim was objected to because of the crown and the coat of arms. In July 1901, the municipal council approved the redesign of the coat of arms; the representation of the grape has been improved and the colors specified. The new municipal coat of arms was used from May 1902. In 1938 and 1958 the municipality temporarily used color stamps with the grape in the crowned shield.

religion

The vast majority (95%) of the population is Catholic and otherwise Protestant or non-denominational.

Culture and sights

Buildings and monuments

Catholic Church of St. Margareta

Eiersheim, St. Margareta Church

The Church of St. Margareta was built in Empire style in 1831 and renovated a hundred years later. In its tower to the north of the nave there is a remnant of the old church, which was certified as early as 1515.

Half-timbered buildings

Typical historical half-timbered buildings of the Taub Franconian region have been preserved in the village. A half-timbered house from 1712 is particularly worth seeing.

Local museum

In 2007 the Heimatverein opened a village museum in Eiersheim. It is located in an old house with an adjoining barn and was refurbished through volunteer work and donations. The village museum documents life and work in an Eiersheim house around 1900 and can be visited.
