history

The building complex at Nikolaistraße 39 in Weißenfels is the Hofmarschallhaus, built in 1709 for Hans Moritz von Brühl . The height of the three-storey building, which once protruded above the other buildings, testifies to the importance of its builder, who held a number of offices, such as the Privy Councilor , Chief Steward of the Duke of Saxony-Weißenfels , Chief Captain of the Principality of Saxony-Querfurt and the Thuringian State Portion. A magnificent facade was dispensed with, but the building was still considered an aristocratic palace . The former gate passage is walled up, but still recognizable. Baroque stucco work has been preserved in the more than 26 rooms .

The building has been empty since the 1970s and has had to be secured several times since then. The building is to be preserved if possible, the renovation costs are estimated at several million euros.
