The Hofsee is a lake in Leisten, a district of the town of Plau am See in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
location
The roughly rectangular lake has an approximate area of 20.4 hectares with a length of 660 meters and a width of 390 meters. It belongs to the nature reserve north shore Plauer See . Plauer See (Mecklenburg) is only 550 meters to the east , into which it drains via a ditch.
The village of Leisten is located on its north bank and has access to the lake with a natural swimming area. The other banks are slightly swampy and separated from the surrounding area by a belt of bushes and trees. This consists of meadows except in the south and northeast, where forests border the lake. A nature trail in the Nossentiner / Schwinzer Heide nature park leads around the lake, but only reaches the shore on the west side.
Fischerei Müritz-Plau GmbH manages the lake through net fishing. Angling (fishing) is possible to a limited extent from the jetty.
Birds
In autumn, several thousand tufted ducks and pochards spend the day resting on the Hofsee. At night they fly to the Plauer See in search of food. As diving ducks, they look for mussels and other animals on the lake bed.
