The Hoftheater Dresden is a private theater in Dresden in the district of Weißig . It was founded in 1995 by the actor Rolf Hoppe and has been run by the Kultur- und Kunstverein Schönfelder Hochland e. V. operated. It has 99 seats.

history

Rolf Hoppe bought an old farm in Dresden-Weißig in 1997, which he gave to the Schönfelder Hochland e. V. assigned. Hoppe was a co-founder and member of the association. The aim was to build a theater on the outskirts of Dresden. The former barn of the farm was converted into a chamber theater with 99 seats. In the summer of 1999 the first court theater festival with the motto “From the farmer's farm to the court theater” was held there, supported by the artistic circle of friends Rolf Hoppes. These festivals took place until 2002, when regular theater operations began. When the theater opened in 2002, Rolf Hoppe performed a recitation matinee on the subject of love with texts by Lessing , Heine , Brecht and Kästner . An opening program by and with Wolfgang Dehler was originally planned, but it was canceled due to illness.

In 2004, heating was installed to ensure that the game was run regardless of the season. In 2012 the stage was built with a basement and a lower stage installed.

As the Leipziger Volkszeitung explains, referring to a conversation with Rolf Hoppe, when naming the theater he deliberately played with the ambiguity of the term `` farm '': this refers to both the former agricultural use of the property, a former LPG, and to the Dresden court and residence theater tradition.

In addition to the games in the former barn, events have also been taking place on a board stage in the former cowshed vault since autumn 2003. As before, the courtyard area is also used as a theater venue in summer when the weather is suitable.

The area between the cowshed vault and the theater barn was expanded as a theater foyer, which is regularly used for art exhibitions.

The Hoftheater Dresden has been financially supported by the state capital Dresden since January 2018. It is also financed through donations and sponsorship money.

game schedule

The schedule is based on Rolf Hoppe's artistic standards. He expressly understood the court theater not as a cabaret stage , but a venue of high culture with the spatial and technical possibility of hosting guest performances of established theaters in studio and chamber theater format. Including self-productions, mainly by the in-house director Helfried Schöbel , from classic to contemporary drama, for example by Neil LaBute , Felix Mitterer , Lutz Hübner , Rolf Schneider .
