The Hogeweidebrug is a road bridge over the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal in the Dutch municipality of Utrecht .

Surname

The bridge got its name from the nearby district of Hoge Weide , which lies on the western bank of the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal and is connected to the city center by the road bridge. Because of its distinctive color, it is also called Gele Brug ( German  "yellow bridge" ).

history

The Hogeweidebrug (right) before its placement and the Vleutensebrug (middle) before its demolition

On February 27, 2006 the groundbreaking of the bridge construction took place by Karla Peijs , then head of the Ministry of Verkeer en Waterstaat , and Yet van den Bergh, alderman of the municipality of Utrecht. First, the abutments were built before the bridge was pushed in on September 16, 2007. The official opening of the Hogeweidebrug took place on June 3rd, 2008 in the presence of the alderman Tymon de Weger. It thus replaced the Vleutensebrug, which had previously represented the road link. On the weekend of June 28th and 29th of the same year it was detached from the abutments and torn down in the following month.
