The Hohe Kranzberg is a small mountain in the west of Mittenwald with a height of 1397  m . It is bounded in the east by Mittenwald, in the west by the Elmau, in the north by the Schmalensee and Buckelwiesen and in the south by Lautersee and Ferchensee . The height of 1391 m, which can often be read and is shown in many maps, refers to a point at the Kranzberg summit hut, which is accessible via paths; a good 300 m to the west of it, however, there is a higher point that is only pathless accessible and at a height of 1397 m according to the official topographical map. The mountain is accessible through many hiking trails. Starting points for hikes are usually the 980 m high car park for the chair lift and the Elmau. The 1,450 m long chair lift for one person each, built by Pohlig in 1950 , extends to the St. Anton mountain inn (1,200 m), from where the Kranzberg summit lift used to lead to the summit region.

On the north side there is a ski area with several tow lifts . For several years there has been discussion about replacing these with more modern chairlifts or cable cars. However, problems with financing, nature conservation and local residents have prevented implementation until now.

With a length of 1.6 km, there is the largest alpine panorama barefoot hiking trail in Germany on the Kranzberg .

In the middle of the forest above the Lautersee there is a boulder that came into place during the Ice Age. As a testimony to the relocations that took place at that time, the stone is considered a natural monument and is under protection.
