The High Cross at the eastern exit of Millstatt is a monumental niche shrine that was probably built by the Jesuits at the beginning of the 17th century .

description

The wayside shrine, crowned with a hipped roof, is around nine meters high and opens on the south side in a five-meter high arched niche in which a three-figure crucifixion group from the beginning of the 17th century is set. On the north side there is a relief-like carved figure of Christ carrying the cross.

The walls are decorated with frescoes: On the front side you can see the passion and death of Christ on the cross. In the reveal of the niche and on the outer walls, angels with instruments of passion as well as St. Ignatius of Loyola and Duke Domitian are depicted. John the Baptist and Franz Xavier are depicted on the side walls .

The plate with the inscription "Anno Domini 1520", which is embedded in the base , still comes from the previous picture stick .
