Coordinates: 51 ° 46 '18 "  N , 10 ° 43' 24.8"  O The Hohne oak , rarely Hohneeiche written in the resin a is over 400 years old oak tree with three Annen Hohne in district resin in Saxony-indication . The Hohne oak was classified as a record tree by the German Dendrological Society.

Geographical location

The Hohne-Eiche is located in the Upper Harz in the Harz National Park . It stands as a single tree about 500 m above the Drei Annen Hohne train station on the Hohnewiese and can only be reached on foot. To do this, you first have to walk about 50 from the train station in the direction of the exit to Wernigerode and then at the junction of the road coming from Elbingerode on the left, the road later known as Glashüttenweg must be walked slightly uphill. After 300 m the Hohnewiese opens on the left, on which the oak stands.

The dandelion discovery path also leads directly past the Hohne-Eiche. Next to the oak there is a possibility to rest in the form of a table and benches.

description

The Hohne-Eiche is designated as a natural monument (ND) (No. 491). It is a sessile oak ( Quercus petraea ). It is estimated that the Hohne oak was planted around 1600. Up until the First World War there was a wooden pulpit on the Hohne-Eiche, which could be climbed with the help of a wooden ladder. Already at that time the Hohne-Eiche was developing into a popular destination for tourists, especially from the two surrounding towns of Wernigerode and Elbingerode (Harz) .

The claim that it is a court oak cannot be documented, especially since given the low level of settlement in the area it is unlikely that a court was ever held under this oak.

On the mighty trunk of the Hohne-Eiche there are several traces of a fire that started immediately at the end of the Second World War when a Wehrmacht VI Tiger armored car parked under the oak was destroyed.

In 2014 junior rangers planted another sessile oak on the Hohnewiese.

Dimensions
