Hohwald was a district belonging to a municipality about 35 km southeast of Dresden directly on the Czech border. It existed from 1994 to 2007 and was named after the Hohwald forest area .

The community of Hohwald was created on January 1, 1994 through the merger of the communities of Berthelsdorf, Rückersdorf and Langburkersdorf. Districts were Berthelsdorf , Langburkersdorf , Niederottendorf , Oberottendorf , Rückersdorf and Rugiswalde .
