Holger Kockelmann

Holger Kockelmann (* 1973 in Prüm ) is a German Egyptologist .

Life

From 1994 to 2000 he studied Egyptology, papyrology and classical archeology at the University of Trier , where he obtained his Magister Artium in 2000, and from 2000 to 2001 at the University of Oxford , where he obtained his Master of Studies in June 2001 . From 2001 to 2002 he was a research assistant at the DFG project Edition of the Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead from the New Kingdom to the Roman Age at the University of Bonn . From 2003 to 2005 he was a research assistant on the project Edition of the Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead from the New Kingdom to the Roman Era of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences at the University of Bonn. After completing his doctorate in Egyptology in Bonn in 2005, he worked as a research assistant at the Egyptological seminar in Trier from 2005 to 2010 . After his habilitation at the University of Tübingen , he taught as a visiting professor at the Institute for Egyptology at the University of Heidelberg in 2014 . From 2015 to 2016 he represented the Chair of Egyptology at the University of Würzburg (winter semester 2015/2016 and summer semester 2016). As a visiting professor , he taught at Ain-Schams-Universität in 2017 . He is director of the project Edition of the Temple Inscriptions of Philae ( ÖAW ) and has been heading the site management project The Second Rescue of the Temple of Philae in Aswan ( Gerda Henkel Foundation ) since February 2017 .

His main research interests are the cultural history of ancient Egypt, the Egyptian religion, hieratic, hieroglyphic and demotic texts and the Ptolemaic and Roman temples of Egypt. In 2019 he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Tübingen.
