Hollander (noble family)
Hollander is the name of a German-Baltic noble family .
history
The von Hollander family comes from Rostock and has established itself in Riga since the end of the 17th century . The progenitor Matthias Hollander lived as a merchant in Rostock around the middle of the 17th century. His eldest son of the same name settled in Riga as a merchant. He was followed by his younger brother Johann (1669–1732) and in 1694 founded a trading company that had operated under the name Johann Heinrich Hollander und Sohn since 1780 and whose owners were his descendants until 1866. In 1788, the family was in the knightly Reichsadel added .
In 1885 Samuel Hollander's four grandchildren issued the statutes for the Hollander Family Foundation, which were printed in Riga the following year.
The family owned the Livonian estate Ohlenhof in the parish of Lösern at the beginning of the 19th century .
coat of arms
The family coat of arms, confirmed by Emperor Joseph II in 1788 , shows a discontinuous golden point in red, topped with a green clover leaf . On the helmet with red and gold covers, a brown trunk with stumped branches on both sides between two red buffalo horns .
Hollander-family crest in the Petri Church (Riga) , Epitaph for from Rostock derived Johann Hollander (1669 to 1732), Council and upper client to Riga
The older coat of arms, as it is attached to the epitaph ( death shield ) for Johann Holländer (1669–1732) in the Petrikirche in Riga, differs slightly from this (unless it is also incorrectly painted with blue and silver instead of red), but clearly indicates towards the common origin: in blue a curved golden rafter that extends up to the edge of the shield, also accompanied by a green clover leaf on the sides and below. On the helmet with silver and gold helmet covers a blue and silver twisted helmet bulge . The crest is missing here.
