Bernhard Albert Hollander ( Russian Бернхард Альберт фон Холландер ; born September 29, jul. / 11. October  1856 greg. In Riga , † January 30 jul. / 12. February  1937 greg. ) Was a Baltic historians .

Bernhard Hollander was a member of the 1788 ennobled rigischen noble family of Hollander . He was a son of the mayor of Riga Eduard von Hollander (1820-1897) and Emilie, geb. Nöltingk, used Thoms (1818-1876). The mayor of Mannheim Eduard von Hollander (1852-1935) and the professor of law at the University of Halle Heinrich von Hollander (1853-1920) were his older brothers.

Career

Hollander attended the Gouvernementsgymnasium in Riga and studied history in Dorpat from 1875 to 1881 . He was also a member of the Baltic fraternity Fraternitas Rigensis .

In Riga he then worked as a teacher at various private schools from 1882 to 1883 until he became senior teacher for history and geography at the Stadtrealschule in 1883 , where he switched to teaching religion in 1891 and stayed that way until 1908.

From 1886 to 1898 he was also a lecturer in commercial geography at the Polytechnic . during this period he also became the Russian State Councilor. From 1906 to 1914 he was director of the Albert School. He was also a member of the board of directors and board members of the Riga branch of the German administration in Livonia. From 1917 to 1919 he was director of the city high school and from 1920 to 1923 teacher at the state German secondary school. From 1885 to 1891 he was also secretary, vice- president and president of the Rigische Gewerbeverein.

Hollander was secretary from 1890 to 1899, deputy secretary from 1899 to 1901, co-director from 1901 to 1902 and 1910 to 1934, and from 1902 to 1904 president and 1909 honorary member of the Society for the History and Archeology of the Baltic Provinces of Russia . He was also a corresponding member of the Estonian Scholarly Society in Dorpat in 1908 and an honorary member of the Estonian Literary Society in Reval in 1910 . In 1921 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Rostock .

family

Bernhard von Hollander married Emilie Pohrt in 1886. The marriage resulted in seven daughters and one son between 1887 and 1906.
