Gustav Otto (historian)

Gustav Adolf Friedrich Otto ( Russian Густав Адольф Фридрих Отто * February 22 jul. / 6. March  1843 greg. In Doblen , Russian Empire , † May 31 . Jul / 13 June  1917 . Greg in Mitau ) was a Baltic doctor and historians .

Life

Gustav was a son of the doctor Alexander Ludwig Otto and Emma, ​​geb. Hartung. He attended the boys' pension in Doblen from 1851 to 1855 and the Gouvernementsgymnasium in Mitau from 1856 to 1859 . In 1860 he was a tutor in hostels . In 1861 he began studying medicine at the University of Dorpat , which he completed with a doctorate in 1866 . In 1867 he studied again in Vienna . He was a practicing doctor in Baldohn from 1868 to 1869 and in Nerft in 1869 , then from 1869 to 1872 city doctor in Bauske and from 1872 to 1913 district doctor in Mitau and from 1877 to 1909 also doctor at the deaconess house there.

Otto was President of the Mitau Medical Association. Through his research and publications he has made a great contribution to Kurland personal studies. He was a member of the Select Committee, from 1892 to 1913 treasurer and curator at the same time, and since 1912 honorary member of the Kurland Society for Literature and Art , since 1890 corresponding member of the Society for History and Archeology of the Baltic Sea Provinces in Riga , and finally since 1892 treasurer of the Latvian Literary Society .

In 1874 he had married Olga Bluhm, daughter of the doctor Karl Bluhm (1812–1904).
