Baldone (German Baldohn ) is a city in Latvia , 33 kilometers south of Riga . This is where the Riga- Skaistkalne and Daugmale - Iecava streets cross .
The Baldones area has been inhabited since the Stone Age. In 1648 an ironworks was set up here, which manufactured anchors and military equipment. At the end of the 18th century, Baldone was known as a health resort for its sulfur springs. Although its importance declined after 1938 with the opening of Ķemeri as a competing health resort, Baldone was well known throughout the Soviet Union .
Baldone has had city rights since 1991 .
