Iecava (German: Eckau ) is a small Latvian town and is located around 40 km south of the capital Riga on the Iecava River . Iecava is the center of an administrative district formed from the municipality in 2003 (Iecavas novads).
Economy and Infrastructure
The Iecava-based companies Balticovo (one of the largest egg producers in Eastern Europe), Iecavnieks (vegetable oil producer , also produces high-priced hemp oil ) and a producer of alcohol make the place an economic center of the region. The Via Baltica (Europastraße 67) performs Iecava.
Sights and history
Iecava was formed around Gut Eckau, of which only the foundation walls and some courtyard buildings have survived. The park was laid out and maintained as an English-style landscape park until the beginning of the 20th century ; today it resembles an idyllic, mature river landscape. There is also an open-air theater in the park. The old hospital, east of the park, is of a certain historical importance.
