Hollywood on Trial is an American documentary released in 1976 .

The film sheds light on the effects of the McCarthy era on the film and show industries. Interviews with injured parties who were summoned to the Committee for Un-American Activities confirm the results of the surveys. The film pays special attention to the Hollywood Ten , ten actors, screenwriters and directors who refused to testify before the committee and were sentenced to prison terms for doing so.

At the International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg , David Helpern received the Interfilm Award in 1976.

In 1977 the film was nominated for an Oscar in the category of best documentary .
