The Holmarksee (German also Hollmarksee , Danish Holmark Sø ) is an inland lake of almost 2 hectares between Kleinwolstrup and Großsolt in the municipality of Freienwill south of Flensburg . Until the 19th century the lake was only used for fishing . At that time it still had a total area of 4.05 hectares. After the construction of a drain to the Kielstau, however, the area was reduced to the current dimensions. The lake with a shore length of 516 m is mainly used as a bathing lake today.
The name of the lake is first documented in 1780 as Holmark Soe and refers to the nearby field Holmark. The part of the name Hol- goes back to the Danish hul (cf. Old Norse hol ) for hole.
