The Holmes Summit is a mountain in the East Antarctic Coatsland . At 1,875 m, it is the highest point in the Shackleton Range and belongs to the Read Mountains .
The United States Navy took the first aerial photographs in 1967. This was followed by a survey of the area by the British Antarctic Survey from 1968 to 1971. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the mountain in 1972 after the British geologist Arthur Holmes (1890-1965).
