history

Before the three singers Edna Wright , Shellie Clark and Carolyn Willis formed a group, they had already been sought-after choristers. Edna had sung with the Raelettes , Carolyn with The Girlfriends and Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans and Shellie with Ike & Tina Turner and Little Richard .

In 1969 the three were allowed to accompany Burt Bacharach on a television show . Eddie Holland , part of the famous Holland – Dozier – Holland songwriting team , saw the group and was so excited that he immediately signed them. He gave them the name "Honey Cone" and from 1969 to 1972 produced several bestsellers with them. Your first single While You're Out Looking For Sugar? was able to place itself in the lower half of the singles charts, as did her second singles Girls It Ain't Easy . Her first million seller was the single "Want Ads" , which reached number 1 on the US charts in June 1971 .

At the end of 1972 the trio disbanded and the members started working as studio singers again. In 1976, Carolyn Willis sang the female voice on a hit by the Seals & Crofts group ("Get Closer") .
