The Honkbal Hoofdklasse is the highest Dutch league in baseball . The league regularly consists of 8 teams, each playing 42 games per season. The league, founded in 1922, starts its season in April and ends in September with the play-offs, in which the best four teams of the regular season take part. The champion of the final series, the so-called Holland Series , automatically takes part in the European Baseball Cup.
In contrast to the North American Major League Baseball, there has been a promotion and relegation system in the Honkbal Hoofd class since the 2005 season.

history
The league began in 1922 and was initially concentrated on Amsterdam. The founding teams were Ajax, Blauw-Wit, Hercules and Quick. Soon teams from Haarlem joined the team.
