Honoré V.

Honoré V of Monaco (born May 14, 1778 in Paris ; † October 2, 1841 ibid) was the ruling Prince of Monaco from 1819 until his death . He was the son of his predecessor Honoré IV and Louise d'Aumont Mazarin , Duchess of Mazarin and La Meilleraye .

Honoré took over the rule in 1819 after the principality had become a protectorate of the Kingdom of Sardinia in 1815 . With a tight government he tried to improve the poor economic situation of the principality - partly at the expense of the people. In 1833 popular protests against him broke out in Menton . After his death his brother Florestan took over the rule.
