Honorio Pueyrredón

Honorio Pueyrredón (born June 9, 1876 in San Pedro , † September 23, 1945 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine lawyer, university professor, politician and diplomat.

Life

Pueyrredón studied law at the Universidad de Buenos Aires until 1896 . He later worked in the Unión Cívica Radical . In 1916 he was appointed Minister of Agriculture. From 1917 to 1922 he served as foreign minister, during this period he was also the representative of Argentina to the League of Nations in Geneva . In 1922 he became ambassador to the USA , where he was also responsible for relations with Cuba . In 1928 Pueyrredón was the president of an Argentine delegation in Havana . In 1931 he was elected governor of the province of Buenos Aires . However, this election was canceled due to electoral fraud by José Félix Uriburu . Politically, he represented the positions of Hipólito Yrigoyen .

The Avenida Pueyrredón in Buenos Aires was named after him.
