Up to the 2015/16 season, Hoofdklasse was the name of the top division in Surinamese football. From the 2016/17 season this division was called Topklasse, which was renamed Eerste Divisie again at the beginning of the 2017/18 season .

From season 1923/24 the Football Championship was in the Hoofdklasse Suriname played, organized by the Surinamese Football Association (SVB) . The Hoofd class was an amateur class.

Hoofdklasse clubs - season 2008/09

2009/10 season

The season traditionally opened on October 4, 2009 with the game for the President's Cup , the Surinamese Supercup. Opponents here were the reigning national champion and cup winner Walking Boyz Company and Inter Moengotapoe, the losing team in the cup final. The championship and the relegated were again determined in two rounds, first and second legs. Promoted to the Hoofdklasse were SV Jai Hanuman and the qualifier The Brothers, who prevailed in two games against SV Excelsior. 2010/11 season

The Hoofdklasse season started again on November 17, 2010 with 10 teams. The regulations were changed as follows: After the first and second legs, the class was divided into two groups. Numbers 1 to 6 of the table played the national and runner-up champions in the championship group in two rounds. Numbers 7 to 10 in the relegated group also played the relegated number 4 and the relegation place, number 3, in two rounds. Two games were played against the number 2 of the first class to stay or to be promoted . The Brothers was directly relegated , while SV Voorwaarts won the two relegation games against the runner-up in the first class . The direct climber to the Hoofdklasse was SV Notch from Moengo , who also won the SVB Cup 2010/11. The top scorer was Inter Moengotapoe's Amaktie Maasie with 19 goals.

2011/12 season

On December 7th 2011 the new high class season started. The regulations were changed again. The ten participating teams played the national champions and relegated teams in a three-round system. The participating clubs:

The order is also the final table of the 2011/12 season, which ended on July 29, 2012. After seven years without a title, the record champions SV Robinhood became national champions again. With a gap of eleven points, Inter Moengotapoe finished second and thus vice-champion. SV Kamal Dewaker was directly relegated and the team from SV Nationaal Leger (SNL, military association) was directly relegated to the Hoofd class. The second place in the first class , Randjiet Boys, was also promoted, the team was able to prevail in two relegation games against SV Voorwaarts.

2012/13 season

2013/14 season

Direct relegation was SV Robinhood and promoted from the first class wa SV Boma Star. 2014/15 season

Both teams are now qualified for the Caribbean Club Championship. Direct relegated the team of SV Nationaal Leger (SNL) and intermediates from the Eersteklasse is SV Nishan 42 from Commewijne . Both teams are now qualified for the Caribbean Club Championship. Since the hoofd class was increased to twelve clubs in the 2016/17 season, there were no relegations.

The top scorer was Romeo Kastiel of Inter Moengotapoe with 18 goals.
