Hooksiel: hibernation on the Hooksmeer

The Hooksieler Binnentief , also called Hooksmeer , is a 60 hectare inland body of water in Hooksiel , a district of the municipality of Wangerland in the district of Friesland in the north of Lower Saxony .

The heavily booked body of water in the Jeverland , which is 2.7 kilometers long and a maximum of 630 meters wide in west-east direction , through which inland water ultimately flows into the North Sea , is mainly east of the core area of Hooksiel. In the southern area of Hooksiel, the Hooksieler Tief flows into the Hooksieler Binnentief. Its water flows into the North Sea via the outer harbor at the eastern end.

In 1979/1980 a water ski lift was built on Hooksieler Binnentief near the outer harbor . In addition to water skiing, water sports such as sailing , surfing , kiteboarding and pedal boating can also be practiced.

Hooksiel beach runs parallel to the inland depression to the north, beyond the dike .
