Bruno Dobelmann (born January 18, 1959 in Hutthurm ), nicknamed " Orca ", is a German extreme swimmer. He is the first swimmer in the world to have successfully completed the double solo crossing of the Fehmarnbelt .

Life

World record project

At the age of six Dobelmann learned to swim in Stuttgart . He completed an apprenticeship, did basic military service in the navy on the Baltic Sea and then returned to Stuttgart-Untertürkheim , where he lives and works in the development of an automotive company. He began cycling in 1985, long-distance running in 2003 and extreme swimming in 2007 . He was a half marathon and marathon runner. He now focuses exclusively on swimming. Bruno Dobelmann holds the lane record for 24-hour swimming in many German swimming pools. He crossed the English Channel in July 2010 in one season. On July 31, 2011, he took part in the two-person relay at the 16th Wakenitz Man with Duisburg-based Harald Weyh . Dobelmann and Weyh finished 20th with 4:49:40 h. On May 22, 2012, he gave up the attempt to swim across Lake Constance lengthways at a water temperature of 13 degrees after more than twelve hours and about half the distance of 64 kilometers. He also had to break off a second attempt in July.

At a height of 1.76 m, Dobelmann weighs 110 kg, which earned him the nickname "Orca".

Belt crossing

Bruno Dobelmann swam through the Fehmarnbelt twice in a time of 19 hours 15 minutes and 51 seconds. He started crossing the Belt on July 26, 2011 at 6:45 p.m. in Puttgarden on the German island of Fehmarn and arrived the following morning at 5:11 a.m. west of Rødby on the Danish island of Lolland . After a short stay of four minutes, he swam back towards Fehmarn, where he reached the Grüner Brink bathing beach near Puttgarden on July 27, 2011 at 2:01 pm. Since then he has held the world record for the double solo belt crossing of the Fehmarnbelt. Dobelmann covered around 50 kilometers in his world record at water temperatures between 14.8 and 16.3 degrees Celsius. When crossing the Belt, he lost about 40 minutes because he had to let ships pass in the fairway six kilometers from Rødby when the waves were high. Dobelmann did without a wetsuit . His body temperature dropped to 35.9 degrees during the crossing.
