Hoover sound

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In electronic music , a Hoover sound (also called Hoover , English for vacuum cleaner ) is a synthesizer sound or instrument.

The Hoover consists of a complex waveform that is caused by several (usually three) oscillators , each of which is played with at least one octave difference and subjected to an extreme use of pulse-width modulation ( PWM , from English pulse-width modulation) to add a very dense chorus effect afterwards . This instrument has the characteristic that it sounds very lively, which is caused by high LFO frequencies of the pulse width modulation. Traditionally, the sound is generated using a Roland Alpha Juno-2 synthesizer and WhatThe? Patch generated. Most of the Hoover sounds were created with this synthesizer as it has a unique method for its PWM of dividing the oscillator sound into four sections and modifying the width of each section individually. More recent Hoover sounds, on the other hand, use samples from the Alpha Juno-2 and enhance this rigidity using granular synthesis .

The Hoover sound became known through the techno track Mentasm by Second Phase ( Joey Beltram & Mundo Muzique ) and Beltram's remix of the track Dominator by Human Resource (both tracks were released in 1991). As a result, the Hoover sound was used in some tracks in a wide variety of electronic dance music genres such as hard trance , hardcore techno , hard house , hardstyle and aggrotech .
