Hops extract

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The hop extract (also known as ethanol extract) is obtained from hops with the help of alcohol. The use of hops extract was declared permissible as an ingredient in beer in 1968.

Manufacturing

The ethanol extract is produced by extraction with an alcohol-water mixture. All groups of substances in the raw hops are extracted. After extraction, the extract is divided into the pure resin extract (which includes all oils, soft and hard resins) and the tannin extract (which includes all polyphenols and polar substances). The pasty extract obtained in this way is mixed with a solution as a carrier material and spray-dried . This results in a powder and, if this is re-pressed, a granulate that can be added to beer, but also to soft drinks containing fruit juice and products similar to tea or iced teas .

use

Different kinds of hop products are used in medicine . Components of hops are used as anti-inflammatory and soothing agents and to relieve swelling.

The cosmetics industry uses hop extract for lotions and creams. In the food industry , hops extract is added to make sweets , baked goods and dairy products .

A study shows that hop extract can have a calming effect on the central nervous system . It has the ability to lower the urge to move and the body temperature, and it also promotes sleep.
