Horace R. Monday, Jr.

Horace Reginald Monday, Jr. (December 1933 in Bathurst , † November 16, 1991 in London ) was a Gambian economist and diplomat.

Life

After finishing school in The Gambia, Horace R. Monday studied economics and received his BA from the University of Exeter , United Kingdom. In 1960 he began his work in the Gambia in the public service. He was from 1965 to 1971 director of the currency council ( English The Gambia currency board ). From 1971, when the Gambian Central Bank was founded, he was its first governor. In December 1972 he was replaced as governor by Sheriff S. Sisay . Monday then worked as managing director of the National Development Bank in Banjul.

In 1988 he was sent by the Jawara government to succeed Sam Sarr as High Commissioner in London (United Kingdom). There he was also accredited for Austria, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and was also the representative of Gambia at the Holy See.

He unexpectedly lived in London in 1991 at the age of 57. His successor as High Commissioner was Mohammadou N. Bobb .
