Horace R. Monday, Sr.

Horace Reginald Monday, Sr. CBE (born November 26, 1907 , † September 5, 1996 ) is a Gambian politician.

Life

Horace R. Monday was around 1958 accountant and around 1967 chairman of the Commission for the Public Service ( English Chairman, Public Service Commission ). For the parliamentary elections in Gambia in 1972 , Monday stood as a candidate for the People's Progressive Party (PPP) in the constituency of Bathurst Central . With 46.23% of the vote, he could not win the constituency, he was defeated by the United Party (UP) candidate John R. Forster .

Around 1976/1977 Monday was chairman of the committee of the Banjul City Council , the city council of Banjul .

In 1977 he was a founding member of the World Council of Mayors , an organization created on the initiative of Johnny Ford , Mayor of Tuskegee, Alabama .

For the parliamentary elections in Gambia in 1977 he ran again in the constituency of Banjul Central . He reached 45.33% of the vote and could not win the constituency again against Forster. John R. Forster died shortly after the election, so by-elections were scheduled in the constituency in May 1977 . Horace R. Monday won the constituency this time with 49.11% of the vote, ahead of Kebba W. Foon (UP), Pap Cheyassin Secka (NLP) and Lilian Johnson (non-party).

Horace R. Monday was the son of Gambian officials James Thomas Monday and Rachel Ruth Davis. He married Wilhelmina Roberta Juanita in 1932, daughter of William Robertson Job Roberts.
