Horacio Espondaburu
Horacio Espondaburu (born September 24, 1855 in Minas , Uruguay , † September 27, 1902 in Montevideo ) was a Uruguayan landscape painter .
Life
Espondaburu, of French descent from Uruguay , was a student of Juan Manuel Blanes . The Uruguayan painter José Alassio (1875–1916) was one of Espondaburus' students . At the age of 30, Espondaburu received a grant to spend five years in Europe . Here he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid and later returned to Uruguay. On March 22, 1899, his daughter Aurea was born, but she was only three months old. He himself fell ill with tuberculosis and died a little later at the age of 47 in his house on Calle Industria 138 in the Montevidean district of Villa de la Unión .
Works (selection)
His works, which dealt with the life of the gauchos, include the watercolor Capataz de estancia , the oil painting Tropa de ganado atravesando un arroyo and the picture El enlazador .

One of his gaucho- inspired oil paintings.
