Horatius Bonar
Horatius Bonar (born December 19, 1808 in Edinburgh as Horace Bonar , † May 31, 1889 ibid) was a Scottish clergyman and poet .
Life
Horace grew up as the son of the solicitor James Bonar in Edinburgh. From 1838 to 1866 he worked as a Presbyterian preacher - first of the Church of Scotland , after the so-called "disruption" of 1843 of the Free Church of Scotland - in Kelso , then again in Edinburgh. In 1843 he married Jane Catherine Lundie, who died in 1884. The marriage gave birth to numerous children. In 1853 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Edinburgh in Aberdeen . Bonar is buried in the courtyard of the Kirk of the Canongate Church in Edinburgh .
Act
In addition to his work as the author of various non-fiction books and writer for various Christian publications ( The Quarterly Journal of Prophecy from 1848 to 1873 and Christian Treasury from 1859 to 1879), Bonar is primarily remembered for his hymns . Some of them have become famous throughout the English-speaking world.

Bonar also wrote biographies of the clergymen John Milne and GT Dodds (the latter was his son-in-law and died in France in 1882).
