The Hordern Gap is a wind gap in the East Antarctic Mac Robertson Land . In the David Range of the Framnes Mountains , it lies between the mountains of Mount Coates and Mount Hordern . The gap nunatak rises up in the center of the Hordern Gap .

Norwegian cartographers mapped the gap using aerial photographs taken during the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 . It served in 1957 and 1958 teams of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions as a passage to the Framnes Mountains. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) named them based on their geographical proximity to Mount Hordern. Its namesake is the Australian businessman Samuel Hordern (1876-1956), sponsor of the British Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition (BANZARE, 1929-1931) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson .
