Hored (also Harid et al.) († April 19, 972 ) was the first bishop of Schleswig in 948.

Life

Nothing is known about Hored's origin. According to Adam von Bremen's Hamburg Church History from the 11th century, he was ordained bishop of “Sliaswig” in 948, “in the 12th year of the Archbishop”, by Archbishop Adaldag of Hamburg on the initiative of German King Otto I. Bishops Liafdag of Ribe and Reginbrand of Århus . The exact time is uncertain, it would be mid-April if the date XI kal. Maii in the catalog of the bishops of Schleswig as the date of consecration and not as the date of death as it would be more likely. On June 7th of the same year, Hored was listed as “ Oredo Sliewiccensis ” among the participants in the universal synod in Ingelheim . There is no evidence that it was first consecrated there. Hored's further fate is unknown, it is also not clear whether he ever entered the bishopric in Haithabu , because it was under Danish rule. However, around 1200 Saxo Grammaticus mentions the beneficial work of “ Haricus Sleswicum ” for the spread of Christianity. According to the catalog of the bishops of Schleswig , written between 1043 and 1085, he held office for 24 years, i.e. until 972. According to the catalog, his successor was an Adaldag, possibly the archbishop himself, while Saxo Grammaticus mentions Marco , who dates Hored very imprecisely “in those times ” Succeeded the reign of Harald Blauzahn . More recent research suggests a much shorter term, up to about 952.
