Horst-Günter Zimmer (born June 30, 1937 in Lübeck ; † September 24, 2016 ) was a German mathematician who dealt with (algorithmic) number theory and computer algebra.

Zimmer received his doctorate in 1966 at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen with Peter Roquette ( About a square shape on the group of rational points of an elliptic curve over a function field ). Until his retirement in 2002 he was a professor at the University of Saarbrücken .

Among other things, Zimmer dealt with the arithmetic of elliptic and hyperelliptic curves with applications in cryptography. His group developed the computer algebra system SIMATH, which was specially designed for number theoretic applications.

In 1980 he published the English edition of Helmut Hasse's number theory lectures .
